The Bloody Glory

Artist: Reni Haymond

I used ballpen to paint a live elephant and to show “blood-stained vanity”.

In the past, my thoughts were similar as many people that it is enlightened already if I do not purchase any ivory, and this thinking was so superficial.

Later, when I became a vegetarian, I began to pay attention to animal rights. When I finished the “zebras” series in 2013 which was very popular, I began to feel that I could no longer just focus on a particular aspect because everything was interlocking. Such as the second artwork “Zebra” series — “Butterfly Effect”, the word “being alone” is actually the end of the last day. Then in 2015 I completed the “Rhinoceros”. In 2017, I completed the “Elephants.”

The process of the drawing was just like a composing a song. A song consists of feelings, thoughts, rhythms and music. And quality is more important than quality. Every influential work is priceless.

She was one of the top ten nominee of the Hong Kong Fine Art Prize. Her works have been shown in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Switzerland and Japan. She currently lives and works in Hong Kong. "I am what i read, I am what i see." "Rather than following the trend, I would like to create my own trend. I want to make something people think that is impossible to be possible, to make ball pen art from minority to become majority and gain a social identity. I try to take away its inherent image and re-invent it with its own individuality, producing a new vision, making contrasts with different frequencies, and finally construct “a new world outside the framework” for the ball pen and use such medium as a “counterweight” to the elimination of high technology."-Reni Haymond
